What started out as a temporary partnership is approaching a one-year anniversary as more than 3,000 callers have used the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training (OET) and Louisville’s WAVE 3 TV Job Link Monday employment venture.

After nearly a year of operation, 3,063 calls to the on-air phone bank staffed by OET specialists in Louisville have produced 2,247 referrals and 311 confirmed hires. The Monday evening partnership connects employers who have job openings with qualified employees.

The partnership, initially planned for one month, is so successful that November will mark its one-year anniversary. According to OET estimates, the average entry-level wage for new hires reported recently for the Kentuckiana area is about $23,000 a year.

“Using a yearly average of $23,000 for an entry-level position, we estimate that the hires from the WAVE 3 Job Link Monday will more generate than $7.15 million a year back into the economy. That’s a nice boost to local and state economy,” said OET Executive Director Penny R. Armstrong.
Armstrong recently paid tribute to the success of the partnership by presenting an award of appreciation on-air to WAVE 3 TV’s Station Manager Jeff Hoffman.

Armstrong said, “WAVE 3 TV is providing a wonderful service to the Kentuckiana area. The station’s ability to reach thousands of viewers is essential to the success of the partnership. On behalf of OET, I want to extend my appreciation for the opportunity that WAVE 3 TV has given our agency to participate in this partnership.”

“We’re very proud to be a part of the effort on Job Link.  Week in and week out our Troubleshooter department led by Charla Young, Kristi Schank, and Rebecca Ramey, is working to help people find employment and help people with jobs find better jobs,” said Hoffman.

Viewers also can access information about thousands of job openings and applicants through both the OET and WAVE 3 employment databases.

Job seekers can call WAVE 3 TV Job Link Monday between 5 - 6:30 p.m. at 502-571-3333 or go online at For assistance at the OET’s Louisville office call 502-595-0099, extension 4082. The office location is Kentuckiana Works One-Stop Center, 600 Cedar Street, Louisville.
