Phoebe's On Main and Hazard Community & Technical College to host Kentucky River Area Regional Meeting
Frankfort, KY: The Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW), an office within the Office of the Governor, is pleased to announce that the KCW Kentucky River Area Regional Meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 28th in Jackson. Co-sponsors of the meeting are Hazard Community & Technical College, including its numerous campuses throughout the eight-county Kentucky River Region, and Phoebe's On Main of Beattyville. The meeting will occur at the in the Jefferson Room of the Breathitt County Life Skills Center on Main Street from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
The meeting will focus on the region's needs and progress for women in the areas of education, equity, leadership, economic sufficiency, and health and well-being. The meeting will include a special presentation on “Women and Money” by Janice Brafford-King, president of Community Trust Bank in Hazard.
Committees will be chaired by regional leaders including Cathy Branson (Education), Karen Ditsch (Health & Well-Being), Marcy Brock-Moore (Economic Sufficiency), Joan Ward (Leadership) and Molly Turner (Equity). ALL women in the Kentucky River Area Development District are strongly encouraged to attend. Those who wish to become further involved may join the committee of their choice at the meeting; however, participation is strictly voluntary.
A 2003 Task Force report revealed that Kentucky’s women rank 49th in the percentage of women with Bachelor’s degrees, 48th in political participation, and 50th in health and well-being. These statistics and the development of local programs and projects will be discussed.
“The impact of the Kentucky River Region meeting will be felt across the Commonwealth at the 2007 Governor’s Conference on Kentucky’s Women,” said Glenda R. Woods, KCW Executive Director.
