KENTUCKY COMMISSION ON WOMEN HONORS WOMEN FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
Frankfort, KY – Three women will become a permanent part of the state Capitol on Tuesday, March 6th. The 2007 Kentucky Women Remembered portraits will be unveiled in the Capitol Rotunda at 1:00 p.m. This prestigious honor will be bestowed upon Ms. Nelda Barton-Collings, President and Chairman of the Board of Bretara, LLC and Tri County Cineplex, LLC of Corbin; the late Beula Cornelius Aspley Nunn, former First Lady of Kentucky and preserver of Kentucky’s history; and the late award winning journalist and civil rights activist from Russellville, Mrs. Alice Allison Dunnigan.
“For the past 29 years, the Kentucky Women Remembered exhibit has provided the Commission on Women with the rare opportunity to honor outstanding Kentucky women and publicly recognize their achievements,” said the Commission’s Executive Director Glenda R. Woods.
Each year, the Kentucky Women Remembered Committee selects one to three Kentucky women to become part of the exhibit and assure their rightful place in the state’s history. Nominations for both the exhibit, and the watercolor portrait artist, are accepted each fall.
Governor Fletcher will sign a proclamation declaring March as Women’s History Month across the Commonwealth.
