Hazard Community & Technical College and Phoebe’s On Main to host Kentucky River Area Regional Meeting
Frankfort, KY: The Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW), an office attached to the Office of the Governor, is pleased that the Hazard Community & Technical College and Phoebe’s On Main of Beattyville, will be hosting the 2007 KCW Kentucky River Regional Meeting on February 6, 2007 at the Breathitt County Life Skills Center, Main Street (across from First National Bank), Jackson, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
The meeting will focus on the regions’ progress in the areas of education, equity, leadership, economic sufficiency, health and well-being, and offer a special session on “Women and Money” presented by Janice Brafford-King, president of Community Trust Bank in Hazard. “The impact of this meeting will be felt across the Commonwealth at the 2007 Governor’s Conference on Kentucky’s Women,” said Glenda R. Woods, KCW Executive Director, “We are proud to be working with the communities of the Kentucky River region to improve the status of Kentucky’s women.” The Regional Meetings will occur in all of Kentucky’s 15 Area Development Districts during 2006 and 2007.
A 2003 Task Force report revealed that Kentucky’s women rank 49th in the percentage of women with Bachelor’s degrees, 48th in political participation, and 50th in health and well-being.
