Kentucky Commission on Women to Host Events at Capitol
Frankfort, KY: In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Kentucky Commission on Women will be hosting the second annual Women’s Day at the Capitol on Thursday, March 2nd, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda. Participants will hear from leading women legislators, attend an effective lobbying workshop presented by Ms. Jerry Henderson of the West Virginia Women’s Commission, meet their legislators and view the Kentucky General Assembly in action. The afternoon will be highlighted by the Kentucky Women Remembered ceremony where three extraordinary women will be honored with a watercolor portrait that will become part of the permanent KWR exhibit, located in the Capitol’s West Wing.
“The day provides an opportunity to get an up-close look at government, inspire more women to be politically active, and recognize women for their lifetime achievement and contributions to the Commonwealth,” said Glenda R. Woods, Executive Director of the Commission. “The 2003 Governors Task Force Report revealed that Kentucky’s women rank 48th in political participation and it is imperative that Kentucky’s women become more interested and involved in governance.” said Woods.
