Lexington Winery Wins Award on Eve of Bistro Opening
For the first time in its 12-year history, the Indy International Wine Competition has awarded its coveted Double Gold award to a Kentucky wine, Jean Farris Winery’s Tempest. Of the 3,800 wines competing, only 116 received the Double Gold.
The Tempest was selected as one of only three wines to receive the Double Gold in the Red Vinifera category, a category historically dominated exclusively by French or California wines. Four of Jean Farris’ other wines, including the popular Riesling, were also recognized in the competition. Wine tasters from across the country have traveled to Lexington on the advice of locals to taste the Tempest and Riesling.
Soon, they’ll be able to sample all of Jean Farris’ wines from a newly built Wine Tasting Room and Bistro. After a two-month review process, the Fayette County Board of Adjustments granted the Bistro permission to open its doors. The Bistro is expected to positively impact the Old Richmond Road business community.
With Lexington’s Equestrian Games just around the corner, Jean Farris chose a strategic time to open its doors. The invitation-only grand opening is set for the evening of Aug. 19. On the agenda are award-winning wines, vineyard tours, live music, and outstanding cuisine including Pan Seared Rack of Lamb and Pancetta Wrapped Prawns prepared by Chef Maria Torres exclusively for Jean Farris.
With Kentucky’s first Double Gold Award winning Tempest as well as an array of other award recipients, the future of Jean Farris is bright. Jean Farris Winery is located on Old Richmond Road in Lexington, conveniently accessible from I-75 via exits 99 and 104. The winery, vineyards, and bistro sit on a 150-year old Kentucky landmark farm. For more information or to attend the Grand Opening Winemaker Dinner, visit the winery for tickets or call (859) 263-WINE. The winery’s web site is www.jeanfarris.com.
