Spring Photo Contest Now Underway
It’s that time of year again with spring in the air at a fever pitch. The itch to get outside and view the great beauty of nature is powerful, and Kentuckians aren’t immune. They’re ready to pounce on the season with cameras in hand, awaiting the perfect time to capture their favorite spring photos.
Various artists and photographers from around the state have been tapped to judge and ohhh and ahhh over the many images that the Kentucky Tourism Department is receiving. To date, the department has received a total of more than 1,200 photos for its fall and winter contests.
“The response has been overwhelming, but we’re thrilled to showcase so many beautiful images in our publications along with advertising and signage that help us promote tourism in Kentucky,” said Cindy Briscoe, the tourism department’s communications director.
Entries in the spring contest will be accepted in five subject categories: Kentucky landmarks, extraordinary spring landscapes, outdoor adventures, big city/small town views and scenic wildlife.
The winner will receive a week’s free stay at the state resort park of his/her choice. Ten finalists will receive a “spring garden basket” that includes a backyard wildlife habitat kit, a gift certificate for 12 native plants, a pair of gloves, and seed packets of the wildflower of the year donated by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources’ Salato Wildlife Education Center Native Plant Program.
The deadline for submission of photos for the spring contest is May 19, 2006.
