Owensboro Alive with Music and Mystery in June
Music and mystery will be alive in Owensboro as the summer heats up in June.
The Yellowbanks Dulcimer Festival celebrates not only Kentucky’s official state instrument, the hammered dulcimer, but many acoustic instruments during the 17th annual event that takes place on the Ohio River at English Park. Workshops as well as performances include mountain and hammered dulcimers, guitar, banjos, fiddles and other acoustic instruments, are offered free of charge.
The festival has been designated as one of the top 20 events for June in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society for three years in a row. The dates are June 6 through 8 and a schedule of times is available on their web site at www.yellowbanksdulcimer.org. For more information contact yellowbanks@bellsouth.net, call 270-684-1631.
Mystery piques the interest with RiverPark Center’s wildly successful International Mystery Writers’ Festival which gears up for its second year on June 12-22. The festival offers the debut performances of brand new mysteries submitted by playwrights from around the world. During last year’s premiere festival, 48 plays were performed for the first time and short stories unveiled. This year’s festival will feature the world premiere of a lost Agatha Christie play, “Chimneys” as well as the debut of a new Sherlock Holmes mystery written by Stuart Kaminsky.
