FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 28, 2004) – Commerce Secretary W. James Host today announced the appointment of Terry Johnson to serve as Deputy Commissioner of Travel.

Terry joined the department in February as Director of Strategic Partnerships and has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner effective immediately.  Before joining the Kentucky Department of Travel, he was Director of Corporate Sales for the UK Network with Host Communications in Lexington.  He has previously held positions in the athletic departments of both Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky.

“I’m delighted that Terry has agreed to be Deputy Commissioner,” Randall Fiveash, Commissioner of Travel said. “I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with him, so I know he will be a great asset in our efforts to promote Kentucky as a travel destination.”

The Department of Travel is the lead agency in promoting Kentucky’s third largest industry.

"I am very excited about this opportunity and honored by the faith Secretary Host and Commissioner Fiveash have placed in me,” stated Terry Johnson upon his appointment.  “We have a terrific staff in the Department of Travel that is ready to move Kentucky's tourism industry forward and I am anxious to be a part of that."

Johnson is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of Bowling Green University with a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.
