Because of high water temperatures and low dissolved oxygen levels, striped bass are under severe stress and in some cases, dying.

Sallee, of Richmond, in Madison County, plead guilty in March 2010 to charges of wanton abuse and neglect of an adult under KRS 209.990.

Monday, August 02, 2010 Gov. Steve Beshear announced today that fiscal courts in 37 counties will receive refunds totaling $493,028.33 from mining permit and acreage fees. The Department for Natural Resources collects mining permit and acreage fees and returns a portion of the fees to coal-producing counties for projects that the fiscal courts deem beneficial to their communities.

Friday, July 23, 2010 Governor Steve Beshear was notified today that President Barack Obama has approved Gov. Beshear’s request for a major disaster declaration for Pike County. Severe storms and flooding hit on Saturday, July 17, causing two fatalities and severe damage across the county. Gov. Beshear saw the damage firsthand when he visited Pike County on Monday, July 19.

Friday, July 23, 2010 Attorney General Jack Conway today announced a settlement has been reached with Outreach Associates, Inc., a professional solicitor that fundraises in Kentucky for various charitable organizations, for failing to timely file documents that outline how the solicitor distributes the money it raises. An Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) filed Wednesday, July 21 in Franklin Circuit Court requires Outreach to file all of its outstanding financial documents within 10 days. As per the AVC, Outreach has also paid the Commonwealth $20,000 in penalties and costs.

Thursday, July 22, 2010 Attorney General Jack Conway today put Kentucky businesses on notice that price-gouging will not be tolerated during times of emergency. Gov. Steve Beshear declared a state of emergency for the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Tuesday, July 21, 2010 after severe thunderstorms and deadly flash flooding in a number of Kentucky counties on July 17 and 20th. Gov. Beshear also signed an executive order to implement Kentucky's price-gouging laws statewide.

Sunday, July 18, 2010 In light of devastating flash floods, Governor Steve Beshear today activated the Commonwealth Emergency Operations Center and declared a State of Emergency for Pike and Shelby counties to allow necessary assistance to quickly get to those in need. The flooding has caused the loss and damage of property, significant impact to county infrastructure and two confirmed fatalities.

The brightly colored jewelry sold at Rainbow stores in Lexington and Louisville could be attractive to children and could present a danger to a child's health. An investigation into whether the products have been sold elsewhere in Kentucky is ongoing.

An Agreed Order between the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the city of Portsmouth, Ohio, its former mayor Gregory Bauer, Steven Shaffer and David Vetter, dismissing the civil suit, was filed today in federal district court.

Thursday, July 08, 2010 Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control today announced that they have asked Carter Circuit Court to revoke the probation of a former Community Presence caregiver. Last May, Branden Starostka, from Grayson, was sentenced to five years in the Kentucky Department of Corrections for wanton abuse of a vulnerable adult and tampering with physical evidence. Starostka was initially sent to prison, but in October, the court granted his motion for shock probation.

Royse, formerly of Frankfort, was indicted for knowing neglect of an adult under KRS 209.990(2) in connection with the neglect of a resident at Golden Living in December of 2007.

- Attorney General Conway Announces Conviction of Berea Man on Child Pornography and Drug Charges
Thursday, June 24, 2010 Attorney General Jack Conway today announced the conviction of a Berea man on child pornography and drug charges. A Madison Circuit Court jury has found Gerald Jones guilty of 143 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, one count of marijuana cultivation and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones will receive the maximum of 20 years to serve on all counts when he is formally sentenced on August 12, 2010.
