Thursday, June 18, 2009 Two Kentucky AmeriCorps programs will receive more than $750,000 in new grant money to develop transitional housing and serve at-risk students.
The money is from the annual funding competition of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a public-private partnership that engages Americans of all ages in service.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 On Saturday, June 20, three members of the Berea Welcome Center Carvers will create ‘Care Carvings’ which will be presented to children at the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington. This is the fifth year that the Berea Welcome Center Carvers have donated their time, talent and love to the children at UK Children’s Hospital. Woodcarvers demonstrating on June 20 will be John Adams of Berea, Will Bondourant of Berea and Roxy Peel also from Berea.

Monday, June 01, 2009 Kentucky’s public and independent postsecondary institutions reached an historic milestone by conferring 30,178 degrees, diplomas and certificates during spring commencement exercises last month. This is a 7 percent increase over last year and a 40 percent increase over five years.

Thursday, April 02, 2009 A meeting to address the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) will be held on April 7 at the Bell-Whitley Community Action Center in Pineville, Kentucky, at 6 p.m. The agenda will include discussions on treatment options for infested trees.
