Monday, December 01, 2008 The National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACAA) has elected John Lyons, director of the Division for Air Quality, to its board of directors. NACAA represents air pollution control agencies in 53 states and territories and over 165 major metropolitan areas across the United States. The Kentucky Association for Environmental Education (KAEE) elected Elizabeth Robb Schmitz, environmental education specialist for DAQ, as its president during the association’s annual conference. KAEE is one of the nation’s oldest environmental education associations, working since 1976 to create a sustainable environment through education.

- Berea Leadership Institute Receives ARC Grant
Monday, October 20, 2008 (Frankfort, KY) October 17, 2008— The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), in conjunction with Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government, has announced that the Brushy Fork Institute in Berea, KY, will receive a $400,000 grant. The Institute, which is part of Berea College, will use the funds to provide community development training for community leaders in 37 economically distressed Appalachian counties in eastern Kentucky.

Sunday, September 28, 2008 Dr. Michael Seelig, senior assistant to the provost and interim affirmative action officer at Morehead State University, has been appointed interim vice president for academic affairs at the Council on Postsecondary Education. Seelig begins his duties this week. He replaces Dr. Jim Applegate who resigned to become senior vice president for the Lumina Foundation on Education in Indianapolis.

Friday, September 26, 2008 Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed Covington resident Joseph U. Meyer as deputy secretary of Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. In this role, Meyer will also serve as director of the Office of Educational Programs. He will continue his current duties as a senior policy adviser to the governor.
