Tuesday, March 09, 2010 On Saturday, March 13, Robert Tincher will bring in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit by performing music and singing traditional Celtic songs with guitar along with such Irish instruments as the Bodhran and Cittern from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. Tincher is an interpreter of folk songs from Scotland and Ireland, two nations important to Kentucky’s musical heritage. He performs with a respect for the tradition, and a cultural fluency acquired through years of firsthand interaction with singers from the British Isles.

Thursday, February 11, 2010 After receiving dozens of calls and complaints from Kentuckians, Attorney General Jack Conway today asked Topix.com, an interactive message board website host, to provide information regarding its policies dealing with abusive posts that violate the website’s terms of service. General Conway’s Office of Consumer Protection has received calls and complaints from concerned citizens who allege that false and defamatory information about children, as well as adults, has been posted on the Topix website. They have also complained that the tools provided by Topix to remove the abusive posts are ineffective unless consumers agree to pay a $19.99 fee.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 Governor Steve Beshear presented a balanced budget proposal to the General Assembly tonight – one that does not raise taxes, cuts many agencies an additional two percent, and includes projected revenues from gaming in order to protect core priorities, including SEEK – the primary classroom funding formula; Medicaid – the health care program for our most vulnerable; and certain public safety and job creation programs. Gov. Beshear’s budget proposal is projecting savings from his Smart Government Initiative of $77 million over the biennium, including $33 million in the General Fund.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 Attorney General Jack Conway today announced that his office will again host training for police officers and local prosecutors about the effective prosecution of DUI cases at a regional seminar on Wednesday, January 20 through Friday, January 22 at the Hilton Suites at Lexington Green in Lexington, Kentucky. The training is coordinated through the Attorney General’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Program, headed by Robert Stokes. The goal of the training is to create a team building approach in the detection, apprehension and prosecution of impaired drivers.

- Kentucky Oral History Commission Funds Projects Across Kentucky
Friday, January 08, 2010 The Kentucky Oral History Commission (KOHC), administered by the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS), recently awarded grants for the first half of the 2010 fiscal year, impacting communities across the Commonwealth. These grants will be used to collect and conserve oral histories related to statewide, regional and community historical events. KOHC also provides technical assistance to oral historians and, in some cases, an accessible, secure place for these oral histories to be stored.
