Governor Ernie Fletcher Announces UGN, Inc. has Selected Somerset to Locate its New Facility
FRANKFORT, KY – Governor Ernie Fletcher and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Gene Strong announced today the decision by UGN, Inc. to locate a new facility in Pulaski County, creating an initial 150 jobs with an expected total of 300 jobs in the next three years. The project represents a $16 million investment in the commonwealth.
“The decision by UGN, Inc. to locate its manufacturing facility in Somerset, will provide a major boost to the local economy,” Governor Ernie Fletcher said. “Kentucky has been an ideal location for automotive suppliers for a long time and UGN, Inc.’s new facility shows that the commonwealth continues to be a prime location for the automotive industry.”
UGN, Inc. is a recognized leader for acoustic, interior trim and thermal management products serving the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America. The 314,000 square foot Somerset plant will produce the company’s first acoustical carpet system for 2007 production year vehicles and is expected to be operational by 1st quarter 2006.

Established as a joint venture in 1986 between Nihon Tokushu Tokyo Co., Ltd. And Rieter Automotive Systems UGN, Inc. is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and has three manufacturing plants, one research and development facility, and more than 1,200 employees.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved UGN, Inc. for tax benefits up to $5.6 million under the Kentucky Rural Development Act (KREDA), an incentive program designed to locate or expand manufacturing operations in counties suffering from high rates of unemployment.
