Automotive supplier investing more than $4.7 million, creating 33 new jobs

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today joined community leaders and company officials from Toyo Seat USA in Flemingsburg to announce the company will expand its operations.  The automotive supplier is investing more than $4.7 million and creating 33 new jobs.

Kentucky is once again pleased to support the growth of one of our existing automotive suppliers,” said Gov. Beshear. “Toyo Seat is a longstanding corporate citizen and its presence and success not only provides valuable jobs for the Flemingsburg community, but helps to further enhance the Commonwealth’s position as a prime destination for automotive-related industries.”

Toyo Seat USA, a manufacturer of automotive seats and seat parts, began operations in Flemingsburg in 1995.  The company plans to add a new line to produce seat components for the Honda Odyssey minivan in its 132,000 square-foot manufacturing plant located at 112 Toyo Drive.

“Toyo Seat is proud to be in Kentucky and Flemingsburg,” said Johnny Smith, vice president and general manager of Toyo Seat USA Corp.  “This location, along with the excellent support from both the state and local level, gives us a sound base from which we can further move forward in penetrating and developing our marketing opportunities.  Toyo Seat is grateful to Gov. Beshear, the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and the local economic development group for helping us plan for, and realize, this new business opportunity for the Flemingsburg plant.”

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Toyo Seat USA for tax incentives up to $825,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program.  The performance-based incentive can be earned over a 15-year period through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments.

“I am certainly glad that we can help Toyo Seat to continue to maintain and expand its production in Kentucky,” said Sen. Walter Blevins, of Morehead.  “I am glad this investment in industry will create much-needed jobs in my district.”

“This is an important project, adding much-needed jobs that will help us recover from this economic crisis,” said Rep. Mike Denham, of Maysville.

“It is exciting news to learn of the recent job expansion at our local Toyo Seat Manufacturing Company,” said Fleming County Judge Executive Larry H. Foxworthy.  “Toyo Seat is one of Fleming County’s largest employers and has been a very important part of our local economy for many years.  We look forward to the addition of these badly needed jobs for our citizens.  I want to thank Gov. Beshear and his economic development staff for all their hard work and efforts to bring this project to reality.”

“I’m pleased that Toyo Seat USA will be adding 33 new jobs to their manufacturing facility,” said Flemingsburg Mayor Louie Flanery. “Toyo Seat has been in operation in Flemingsburg since 1996 and has been a good employer and an asset to our economy.  I want to thank Gov. Beshear and the Economic Development Cabinet for working with Toyo Seat to make this project a reality.”
