New 260,000 square foot plant will create 100 new jobs

FRANKFORT, KYGovernor Ernie Fletcher and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Gene Strong announced today that Sonopress LLC, a world leader in media services and Coral Graphics Services, both part of the arvato/Bertelsmann family of companies, have formed a joint venture to open a new facility in Louisville.

The 260,000 square foot production facility, slated to open in July 2005, will initially create 100 full-time jobs that will pay an average hourly wage of $10.45 to $34.76 per hour.

“On behalf of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, I would like to congratulate Sonopress and Coral Graphic on the opening of their new Louisville facility and welcome them to our community,” Governor Fletcher said. “These organizations have recognized the many advantages and available resources offered to them by our state.  I wish both companies the best on this new and exciting joint venture.”

The Louisville facility will initially house printing, auto assembly and display build capabilities and focus on the entertainment and software industries.  Customers will benefit from the reduced time-to-market resulting from the integrated printing product assembly and distribution services on site, as well as the companies’ emphasis on security throughout the new plant.

“It is estimated that 60-70 percent of sales in the gaming industry occur during the first month of a title’s release,” said Joe Mann-Stadt, president and CEO, Sonopress US.  “Therefore, it is absolutely critical that game publishers have an efficient supply chain to ensure that their titles are consistently available to retailers at a moment’s notice.  Our new facility in Louisville will enable us to produce, package and distribute high-quality games and software in a rapid and cost-effective manner, giving our customers even more confidence that their products will be on shelves during crucial sales periods.”

For its area of the new Louisville facility, Coral Graphics will employ state-of-the-art printing technologies that will produce high-quality graphics efficiently.  The facility will enable Coral Graphics to more efficiently partner with Sonopress by accommodating the tight turnaround times for Sonopress customers and reduce freight costs.  As an extension of the existing Coral Graphics infrastructure, the new Louisville facility will ensure tremendous capacity for the company and enable it to offer customers a convenient location to personally approve print runs whenever necessary.

“We are pleased to partner with Sonopress on the opening of a new facility in Louisville and look forward to many exciting and successful opportunities in the near future,” said Dave Liess, president and CEO, Coral Graphic Services.  “This partnership will be a significant benefit to the customers we serve and to both companies.  Our extensive decorative capabilities and technical expertise in prepress, remote proofing, digital printing and conventional offset and finishing, combined with Sonopress’ packaging and replication services will create an efficient and competitively priced solution.”

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved Sonopress LLC up to $2.5 million in approved start-up costs under the Kentucky Jobs Development Act (KJDA), an incentive program aimed at increasing the number of service- and technology-related jobs in the state.
