Governor Beshear Honors Kentucky Small Businesses
Presents U.S. Small Business Administration Awards and Recognizes 2010 Pacesetter Business Recognition Program Inductees
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 19, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today recognized the contributions and achievements of several Kentucky businesses and advocates by presenting four companies with the U.S. Small Business Administration Awards. Additionally, Gov. Beshear helped to induct eight businesses into the Kentucky Small Business Development Center’s 2010 Pacesetter Business Recognition Program. The awards were made at the Governor’s Mansion as part of Small Business Day in Kentucky.
“Small Businesses are the key to our economic growth and it is imperative that we support and recognize the contributions these companies make to our statewide economy,” said Gov. Beshear. “I’m pleased to present the U.S. Small Business Administration Awards to four deserving Kentucky companies, as well as induct eight more small businesses into the 2010 Pacesetter Business Recognition Program. These honored businesses demonstrate the vitality and ambition needed to move Kentucky forward.”
The U.S. Small Business Administration Awards recognize entrepreneurs and advocates who have significantly contributed to enhancing entrepreneurship in Kentucky. Individuals are recognized in the categories of Minority Small Business Champion of the Year, Home-Based Business Champion of the Year, Women in Business Champion of the Year and Small Business Person of the Year. A panel of judges selected the winners based on an application process. This year’s recipients include:
- Minority Small Business Champion of the Year – Sheila Anne Taluskie, God’s Closet, Lexington
- Home-Based Business Champion of the Year – Debra Locker Griffin, Locker Public Relations, Lexington
- Women in Business Champion of the Year – Barbara Jane Moores, BJM and Associates Inc., Lexington
- Small Business Person of the Year – Wade Lewis and Silas Boyle, MaximumASP, Louisville
Gov. Beshear also inducted eight high-performing, second-stage businesses into the Kentucky Small Business Development Center’s third class of the Pacesetter Business Recognition Program. Businesses were honored because of their impact on the economic landscape of the Commonwealth by introducing innovative products, increasing sales and/or production, boosting employment and serving their respective communities. Each of the winning businesses demonstrated the intent and capacity to grow based on employee and sales growth, entrepreneurial leadership and sustainable competitive advantage. To qualify, businesses must have been in operation for three or more years, employ at least six and have revenues exceeding $500,000.
