Governor Beshear Announces KHI Foods, Inc. to Locate New Facility in Owenton
Wholesale food manufacturer will create 32 new jobs, invest over $1.6 million
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May x, 2009) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Economic Development Cabinet Interim Secretary Larry Hayes today announced KHI Foods, Inc. will locate a wholesale food manufacturing facility in Owen County. The project will create 32 new jobs and represents a capital investment of over $1.6 million in the Commonwealth.
“Kentucky is pleased to assist KHI Foods, Inc., an already successful Kentucky company, with this expansion opportunity,” said Gov. Beshear. “The creation of 32 new jobs and $1.6 million investment will provide a positive impact on the Owenton community. We look forward to working with KHI Foods as they continue to grow and flourish here in the bluegrass.”
KHI Foods, which currently has operations in Burlington, Ky., will expand its Kentucky presence by leasing a 32,000 square-foot facility on three acres in the Owenton Industrial Park located at 100 Progress Way. The plant will coordinate resources of its associated entities to receive vegetable and meat produce from regional farmers and produce finished, value-added food products.
“KHI Foods, Inc. has enjoyed its relationships with farmers, county agents, and local and state officials for several years as it has developed its Kentucky Proud products and markets, as well as our Comfort Care selection of fortified foods for cancer patients,” said Millard Long, president, KHI Foods, Inc. “This move to Owenton is a result of that cooperation and support and we feel that it is a positive step toward providing another sustainable economic link for rural communities. We are very appreciative of the efforts of Governor Beshear and the Cabinet for Economic Development in assisting with this endeavor.”
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved KHI Foods for up to $640,000 for tax benefits under the Kentucky Rural Economic Development Act, an incentive program administered by the Cabinet for Economic Development.
“We are very excited about KHI Foods locating in Owen County,” said Carolyn Keith, Owen County Judge/Executive. “This will mean approximately 32 new jobs for Owen County plus the addition of a new industry to our county. I have been very impressed by the information provided about the products that will be produced and many of our farmers see this as an opportunity to sell their products to this company.”
