Approximately 120 new jobs to be created at Frankfort Jim Beam operation

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 17, 2009) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Larry Hayes today announced Beam Global Spirits & Wine will expand its operations in Kentucky.  A longstanding first family of Bourbon, the Jim Beam distilleries in Frankfort and Clermont, Ky., will begin production of DeKuyper® cordials and other spirits currently bottled outside of Kentucky.

Beam Global’s initiative to increase operational efficiencies in its U.S. bottling operations will result in the addition of approximately 120 new jobs and over $28 million in technology upgrades at the Frankfort distillery over the course of the next two years.

“This is exciting news for our Kentucky Jim Beam distilleries, creating 120 new full-time jobs while bolstering one of Kentucky’s signature industries,” said Gov. Beshear.  “We’re pleased to partner with Beam Global, whose rich history and tradition is deep-rooted in the fabric of our Commonwealth.”

The expansion will entail adding 21,600 square feet to the existing 557,000 square-foot Jim Beam facility in Frankfort.   In addition to bottling production, additional areas will experience growth, including administrative, laboratory, wastewater, processing and shipping.

“It’s imperative to capitalize on opportunities that make our operations more efficient and enhance our competitive position,” said Beam Global’s Vice President of Americas Operations Jeff Conder.  “Our Kentucky facilities in Frankfort and Clermont – home of our flagship brand Jim Beam – have the capability to absorb additional bottling activity as well as the potential to accommodate higher volumes in the future.”

In Kentucky, Beam Global operates distilleries with bottling capability in Clermont, Frankfort and Loretto, as well as a distillery in Boston, Ky.  The Bourbon industry currently provides more than 3,000 jobs in Kentucky and more than $3 billion in gross state revenue.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Jim Beam Brands Co. for up to $6.3 million under Kentucky’s new incentive program, the Kentucky Business Investment (KBI) Program.  The KBI incentive can be earned over a 10-year period through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments.

“I am pleased that Beam Global has decided to expand their operations in Franklin County,” said Franklin County Judge-Executive Ted Collins. “We’ve been working closely with them for many months now. The Fiscal Court, in partnership with the state, has made it possible for this project to become a reality.  For many years, Beam Global has been a well-established corporate partner in our community. Their investment of over $28 million and addition of more than 120 high-paying jobs is an asset to Franklin County.”
