Gov. Beshear Congratulates Kentucky Companies on Inc. Magazine’s Top 5000 List
Nearly 50 Kentucky companies make list of nation's fastest-growing private businesses
FRANKFORT Ky. (Aug. 24, 2012) – Governor Steve Beshear today congratulated 47 Kentucky companies on being named to the Inc. 5000 list, Inc. Magazine’s annual ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The number of Kentucky companies indicates a growing trend in the last three years of the rankings, with 46 in 2011 and 44 in 2010.
“This shows real economic growth and success for Kentucky, with 47 of our companies making this exclusive ranking,” Gov. Beshear said. “I’m proud of the Commonwealth’s presence in Inc. Magazine’s top 5000 list, and I hope we can continue to add to the total, as we have over the past three years.”
The Inc. 5000 represents the most comprehensive look at one of the most important segments of the economy: America’s independent entrepreneurs. The companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth over a four-year period.
To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of the starting calendar year, and be able to show four full calendar years of sales.
Companies must also be U.S.-based, privately held, and independent, not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies. Revenue in the initial year must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in the most recent year must have been at least $2 million.
