  • Governor Beshear Commemorates Grand Opening of Blackhawk Composites Manufacturing Facility in Morgantown

    MORGANTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Economic Development Cabinet officials today joined company and community leaders in Morgantown to commence the grand opening of Blackhawk Composites, Inc. a startup manufacturer of advanced aerospace composite parts. Gov. Beshear announced Blackhawk Composites’ plans to begin manufacturing operations in Butler County last October resulting in 20 new jobs initially, growing to 30 within the first year. The project also represents a more than $1.5 million investment in the Commonwealth.

  • Bowling Green and Lexington High-Tech Companies Awarded Funding for Medical Technologies

    FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2010) – Two Kentucky high-tech companies were awarded a combined $275,000 in funding today from the Cabinet for Economic Development’s High-Tech Investment Pool. The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) approved Xhale Inc. and Connected Patients LLC for state funding of up to $175,000 and $100,000 respectively to assist in the expansion of the companies. The two projects are anticipated to create a combined 21 new high-tech jobs.

  • Governor Beshear Announces SBIR-STTR Grants for Kentucky High-Tech Small Businesses

    FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced that nine Kentucky high-tech companies will share nearly $2.2 million in state funds as part of a Kentucky initiative to attract and support technology-based small businesses. Through the state’s competitive SBIR-STTR Matching Funds program, Kentucky matches federal SBIR-STTR awards received by Kentucky companies or those willing to relocate to Kentucky. This round of state awards supplements more than $6 million in federal funding made to the firms.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 11, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced new, professional jobs are coming to Elizabethtown with the expansion of Akebono Brake Corporation’s headquarters. Joined by Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes, community leaders and company officials, Akebono Corporation said it would add 70 new jobs to its administrative offices as a result of discussions between Gov. Beshear and Akebono Corporation officials in Japan during the governor’s October 2009 economic development trip.

Steve Beshear today visited Curtis Maruyasu (MARY’-oss) America, an automotive industry supplier, in Lebanon, Ky., to announce that jobs for 416 Kentucky families will be saved because of the state’s efforts to retain Kentucky’s existing industry. Curtis Maruyasu America will retool its Marion County facility, investing nearly $11 million and preserving 416 jobs.

Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes today announced Kentucky-based Rare Breed Distilling will construct a new 20,000 space barrel storage warehouse at its Wild Turkey® distillery in Lawrenceburg. This new project will add to Wild Turkey’s storage capacity for its maturing whiskey products and will entail a nearly $2.3 million investment in the Commonwealth.

Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes today announced Price Solutions LLC will expand its manufacturing operation to produce MAC Security Portals and other modular products in Greenup County. The project will create 20 new jobs and represents a more than $1.7 million investment in the Commonwealth.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2009) – In his fight to create new jobs for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Gov. Steve Beshear today joined Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and company officials at General Electric (GE) to announce the company’s plans to implement high-end, energy-efficient front load washer and dryer manufacturing at the Louisville Appliance Park. More than 430 new jobs would be created and an investment of over $80 million would be made by GE to bring the new product line to Kentucky.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2009) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development representatives today joined community and company officials to announce Lexington-based Summit Biosciences, a specialty pharmaceuticals business and client of the Lexington Innovation and Commercialization Center, will expand its operation creating 22 new jobs and investing over $5 million in the Commonwealth. Seventeen of the projected new jobs are high-tech positions with an average annual salary of more than $64,000.

Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes today announced NTSG, Inc., a provider of outsourced advanced optical network integration services to the communications industry, will open a new facility in Lexington. The new company will create 106 new jobs and invest nearly $32 million in the Commonwealth.

Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Larry Hayes today announced the approval of state funding of up to $3.5 million for the Kentucky-Argonne Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center in Lexington. The state funds, which were approved by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority from the Cabinet for Economic Development’s High-Tech Pools, will be matched with up to $3.5 million in federal funds.
