LOUISVILE, KY … The Kentucky Exposition Center cut the ribbon on the newest addition of exhibit space today as South Wing C was officially opened for business.

Adding 237,000 square feet of class “A” exhibit, meeting and public space, South Wing C brings the facility's prime exhibit space total to 425,700 square feet.  The new glass, steel and concrete structure offers convention and trade show business 57,000 square feet of new meeting and conference space, including an amenity-filled VIP office suite overlooking the exhibit show floor.

On hand for the grand opening luncheon and ribbon cutting were Governor Ernie Fletcher, Mayor Jerry Abramson, members of the Kentucky General Assembly, and a host of elected officials, community and business leaders and convention officials.

Lanny Greer, chairman of the Kentucky State Fair Board, which operates the facility, noted that in 1999 the board began working to bring about the expansion. “In order to grow our convention business - or even retain current clients – we had to grow our class “A” space.”

Both Governor Fletcher and Louisville Mayor Abramson commended the facility for being a major economic engine of the community.  “The Kentucky Exposition Center has a proven track record of success, and draws people from all over the world to Louisville through convention and tradeshow expos,” said Mayor Abramson.

Governor Fletcher commended the board for continuing to move business forward.  “The Kentucky Expo Center and its sister facility, Kentucky International Convention Center, contribute over $430 million each year in economic impact to the Commonwealth.  With this expansion, the expo center continues to be a true  business asset for this community and our state.”

The $52 million project began in September, 2003 and was completed on time and within budget on October 1, 2005. The expansion maintains the facility’s ranking as the sixth largest exposition facility in the United States.

One of the top ten largest public facilities of its kind in the United States, the Kentucky Exposition Center features over 1.2 million square feet of indoor exhibit, meeting and public space.  The expo center accommodates an amazing spectrum of events year round and hosts five of the nation’s largest conventions and tradeshows.
