State Board of Elections Certifies Vote Totals from Primary Election
Today, the State Board of Elections certified vote totals from the May 22nd Primary Election and issued certificates of nomination to candidates who received the highest number of votes in the Primary. Detailed results from the election are available at www.elect.ky.gov.
13.8 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the Primary. Alison Lundergan Grimes, Secretary of State and Chief Election Official, said, "Although turnout was much lower than I would hope to see, I believe our efforts to educate and motivate voters to participate were successful, and turnout was higher than anticipated." Grimes also noted that turnout tended to be higher in counties where local elections – particularly for circuit clerk – were on the ballot. Of the 25 counties in which turnout exceeded 20 percent, the office of circuit clerk was on the ballot in 21.
"I am grateful to all of the officials and citizens who worked hard to ensure the integrity of the May Primary," said Grimes. "I look forward to continuing these partnerships on the state and local levels as we prepare for the General Election on November 6th."
