Secretary of State
Deadline for Essay and Slogan Contests Extended to January 23, 2012
In response to requests from around Kentucky, the Secretary of State’s office has extended by eight days the deadline for its annual essay and slogan contests, which expand civic awareness of students who will soon be eligible to vote in local, state and national elections. Entries for both programs must be either postmarked by January 23, 2012, or electronically submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5 p.m. (EST) on that date. For more information, including rules, judging criteria and the essay prompt, visit www.sos.ky.gov/contest.
“I’m thrilled that additional students want to participate in the essay and slogan competitions,” said Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. “Increased involvement shows that the programs are achieving their purpose of encouraging civic involvement. With the deadline originally falling over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, I am glad to be able to accommodate more entrants by extending it.”
The Secretary of State will announce the winners—who will receive monetary awards—no later than the end of March, and their work will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website.
