Today was the final day for any candidate to file to run in the U.S. 6^th congressional district special election that will fill the unexpired term of former Congressman Ernie Fletcher. 

The following candidates will appear on the February 17, 2004 ballot:

A. B. “Ben” Chandler, III (the Democratic Party) of Versailles, Kentucky

Mark Gailey (the political group/organization Libertarian Party) of Berea, Kentucky

Alice Forgy Kerr (the Republican Party) of Lexington, Kentucky

Republican and democratic candidates may still file to appear on the regular May primary ballot for the congressional seat until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.  Independent candidates or candidates of an organization or political group have until 4:00 p.m. on August 10, 2004 to register.
