Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced today during his testimony to the Kentucky House Committee on Elections, Constitutional Amendments, & Intergovernmental Affairs his intention to file a Petition for Rehearing to 6^th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals concerning the recent ruling on Anderson v. Spear.

“During my campaign, I promised the citizens of Kentucky that as the Chief Election Officer for the Commonwealth, I would crack down on the corrupt practices that have plagued our election systems for years,” Secretary Grayson stated prior to his testimony.  “I intend to keep my promise.  It is my opinion that Kentucky statutes have helped to reduce the corruption and fraud in our election system and that this ruling reverses some of the valuable progress that we have made.  Appealing this ruling is just one step of many that I intend to take to ensure one of the most fundamental rights due to every citizen, the right to cast their vote in a fair election. We should eradicate and prevent corruption rather than allow an atmosphere for its cultivation.”

Secretary Grayson also stated that in the upcoming weeks he will announce further steps to protect the integrity of elections.  He said that his strategies include highlighting the problem of election fraud and assisting justice and law enforcement departments across the Commonwealth in cracking down on corrupt practices.
