Secretary of State Trey Grayson recently announced the appointment of Prestonsburg, KY native Les Fugate to serve as the Director of Communications for the office of the Secretary of State.  Les Fugate had previously served as the Director of Alumni and Annual Giving for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program.

“I am deeply honored to be a part team that Secretary Grayson has assembled to for his administration,” stated Les Fugate. “Secretary Grayson is a man of distinguished character and integrity.  I look forward to working with him to enact his initiatives for Kentucky’s future.”

Les Fugate graduated from Prestonsburg High School in 1998 and Centre College in 2002, where he attained a Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics.  Afterwards, Fugate began pursing a graduate degree from the Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt University.  He plans to complete the degree while working for Secretary Grayson.  He currently resides in Louisville.

Fugate is still active in the Floyd County area by serving on the Jenny Wiley Theatre Board of Directors where he performed on stage for numerous years.  He also serves on the Kentucky Theatre Association Board of Directors.

While at Centre, Fugate was chairman of the Centre College Republicans during the time that Danville hosted the U.S. Vice Presidential Debate.  “That experience was my first experience in politics.  I am forever thankful for the opportunities that Centre and the city of Danville afforded me,” Fugate remarked.

“When looking for individuals to serve in my administration, I wanted to find citizens who valued the Commonwealth and its people as much as I do.  I know that Les is dedicated to seeing that Kentucky’s brightest days are ahead. I look forward to working with him as we work to enact changes that will benefit every Kentuckian across this great Commonwealth.”
