Minneapolis, MN–The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), currently holding its annual summer meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, today inducted its new slate of national officers for the 2009-2010 cycle. Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson will serve as president, marking the first time in the association’s 105-year history that a secretary from the Bluegrass State has done so.

 

Grayson has been a member of the NASS Executive Board since 2007, most recently serving as president-elect. He has also held several committee leadership positions, including chair of the elections committee, chair of the voter participation committee and co-chair of the association’s subcommittee on presidential primaries. 

 

"Being elected president of NASS is an extraordinary honor, and I appreciate the trust bestowed upon me by my fellow Secretaries from across the country," said Grayson, who joined NASS in 2004, shortly after taking office as Kentucky secretary of state. “I pledge to be a tireless advocate and spokesperson for state members in our dealings with the White House, Congress, federal agencies and other stakeholders, especially during these challenging economic times.”

 

Grayson oversees elections, business filings, notaries public, civic outreach and a host of other services in his state. Through his outreach with NASS, he has become a nationally-recognized leader in civic education, presidential primaries, business services and government innovation.

 

As president of NASS, Grayson will lead a slate of executive officers who will oversee the association’s activities for the coming year (through July 2010).  The NASS Executive Board includes:
