  • More Voters Than Ever Registered in Kentucky as May 19 Primary Election Approaches

    Nearly 3.2 million Kentuckians appear on the voter rolls ahead of the May 19 Primary Election, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced today. The total number of registered voters – 3,175,905 – constitutes a new record, beating the 3,147,157 registered for the General Election held in November 2014. The difference is an increase of approximately 1%, or 28,748 voters, over five months.
  • In-Person Absentee Voting in May 19, 2015, Primary Election Opening Across Kentucky

    In many counties, eligible voters may already cast absentee votes for the Kentucky’s May 19, 2015, Primary Election in their county clerks’ offices. All counties will allow eligible voters to cast in-person absentee ballots at least 12 working days before the election.

    With a great sense of sadness, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is informing Kentuckians that her maternal grandmother, Elsie Crawford Case, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015, surrounded by family. Case was 84 years old. She is survived by two children, seven grand-children, eight great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Robinson’s submission, “If you want to fight for what is right, vote vote vote!” was chosen by the public to help promote voting in Kentucky. Robinson received a $600 cash prize for placing second.

    Today, the Kentucky Senate Committee on State and Local Government unanimously passed House Bill 212, which reflects Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes’ recommendation to allow in-person absentee voting on the basis of age, disability or illness. Under current law, individuals who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day due to age, disability, or illness are permitted to vote only via mail-in absentee ballot.

    Today, the House Committee on Tourism, Development and Energy unanimously passed a resolution supported by Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes to initiate a study of existing and potential adventure tourism opportunities in Harlan, Knott, Letcher and Magoffin Counties. Pursuant to the resolution, the Legislative Research Commission would compile an inventory and examine the economic impact of adventure tourism businesses in the region, identify trends and available resources, and recommend ways the General Assembly can develop and promote adventure tourism in Eastern Kentucky.

House Bill 212, which would allow in-person absentee voting on the basis of age, disability or illness, previously passed unanimously. Both bills are sponsored by Rep. Darryl Owens (D-Louisville).

    Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes today joined guests at the Kentucky State Fair for Military Monday to honor Kentucky’s many active-duty and veteran military members. Grimes participated in the Military Monday opening ceremonies and discussed the Military Heroes Voting Initiative, legislation she proposed following a 2012 trip to the Middle East and championed during the 2013 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

  • Secretary Grimes Reminds Business Entities That Missed Deadline to File Annual Reports

    Entities authorized to transact business in Kentucky were required to file annual reports with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office and pay a $15 filing fee no later than June 30, 2014. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s chief business official, reports that more than 173,000 businesses have satisfied the requirement, but approximately 30,000 have yet to file their reports and are no longer in good standing with the office.
