FRANKFORT, Ky. – Two Kentucky State Parks are hosting road rallies – where driving teams go on treasure hunts looking for historic sites and other landmarks to win prizes.

A road rally is a rural driving tour in the country on public roads where two-person driving teams compete in a very casual outing for points to win prizes.  Rallies are structured to keep drivers on the least traveled routes, visiting small towns, historic locales, and forgotten venues along the way.  A road rally is not a race; it’s more like a Sunday afternoon drive spiced up with a treasure hunt.

The Bison Trace Road Rally March 27-29 at Kenlake State Resort Park is a day-long trek of the beautiful Land Between the Lakes region of West Kentucky and Northwest Tennessee with the two-person teams competing for points and prizes.

Teams will gather Friday evening and Saturday morning before heading out from the park near Aurora on Saturday for day of fun. The day includes a drive through an elk and bison preserve, a stop at an historic iron furnace and a Civil War site.

All-inclusive packages begin at $149 per couple for a one night stay and $274 for a two night stay.  For more information, call the park at 1-800-325-0143 or visit:

Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Eastern Kentucky will hold the First Frontier Road Rally May 15-16.

The park is near the scenic Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky and Tennessee and the Wilderness Road State Park in Virginia.

The park is offering a special all-inclusive package for two.  The $268 package includes rally registration, two meals, and two night’s accommodation.  A special non-package fee of $70 per car will be offered for those who wish to participate but will not require overnight accommodations or meals.
