Fort Boonesborough State Park Celebrates Boone’s 275th Birthday Oct. 17-18
RICHMOND, Ky. – The weekend of Oct. 17-18 will mark the 275th Birthday Anniversary Celebration for Daniel Boone, the explorer who helped put Kentucky on the map. The state park near Richmond that bears his name is holding a special weekend to commemorate Boone’s life.
In addition to the birthday weekend, Fort Boonesborough State Park will sponsor a school day opportunity for class field trips on Oct. 16. Space is limited and reservations are required.
The Oct. 17-18 weekend will feature Boone historians and experts as well as Scott New, an actor who portrays Boone. For details about this special weekend, visit: http://www.fortboonesboroughlivinghistory.org/html/boone_birthday_home.html
The fort opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday at 1 p.m., Boone Historian and Author Meredith Mason Brown will speak and sign copies of his book, “Frontiersman – Daniel Boone and the Making of America.” On Sunday at 2 p.m., Boone Historian and Author Neal O. Hammon will speak and will be signing his books, which include “Daniel Boone and the Defeat at Blue Licks.”
These books are available at the park’s 18th Century Transylvania Store.
New performs as Daniel Boone as part of the Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua Program – a living history program that presents characters from Kentucky’s past through actors. These programs are sponsored by Fort Boonesborough State Park, the Kentucky Humanities Council and the Fort Boonesborough Foundation.
There will be 18th century camps, traders, merchants, Native Americans, and ongoing demonstrations of 18th Century life at Boonesborough and in Kentucky throughout the weekend. Guests can visit the 18th Century Transylvania Store as well as the new Fort Museum with original 18th century artifacts.

Fort Boonesborough State Park includes a reconstructed fort (tours April – October), museum, 18th Century Transylvania Store, campground and a swimming pool open during the summer. There is an admission charged to tour the fort.
Fort Boonesborough is located near Richmond. From I-75, take exit 95 to KY 627. On I-64, exit at Winchester to KY 627.
