FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Department of Parks has awarded separate bids for projects that will result in the renovation of six cottages and 15 lodge rooms at Barren River State Resort Park in Lucas, Ky.

Work on both projects is expected to begin shortly with the renovations to be completed by late February. Together, these projects represent an investment of around $450,000 in the facility.

The cottages will receive new flooring (porcelain tiles and carpet), upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinetry and appliances, and bathroom fixtures. Springfield Contracting of Springfield, Ky., will oversee that project.

McNutt Construction Company of Elizabethtown, Ky., will oversee the work on the second project, which is Barren’s lodge rooms. They will get new tile, paint, countertops, bathroom fixtures, lighting and light fixtures.

Both projects are new phases of ongoing projects at Barren. The contracts were awarded following a competitive bidding process. Some accommodations won’t be available during the renovation.

Established in 1964, Barren River State Resort Park is located 44 miles southeast of Bowling Green, Ky., off US31E near Glasgow, Ky.
