E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park Offers Summer Camps for 2012
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Your youngsters can join E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park staff for camps this summer. The park is offering various camps each week throughout June and July. Each camp is overseen by park recreation staff and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Camp sizes are limited to a staff-to-camper ratio of 6-to-1, so register early! The cost of camp is $95 per week, per child. Call the park at 502-429-7270 for information and registration. Each camp must have at least four participants and no more than 12.
Fun Camp
What better way to enjoy summer break than with a week full of FUN! Children will enjoy games, sports, crafts, swimming, meeting new friends, and just being kids.
Ages 5-7: July 16-20
Ages 8-12: June 25-29
Outdoor Skills Camp
This is your opportunity to learn and experience the basics of outdoor wildlife, wilderness survival, setting up camp, and “Leave No Trace” skills.
Ages 8-11: July 23-27
Ages 12-14: June 18-22
Boys and Girls Sports Camp
Explore some new sports and practice your skills on some old favorites. Camps will run for boys and girls separately. Sports covered will be basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, dodgeball, pickleball, and many more! Sports camps are for children ages 8-12.
Boys Sports Camp: July 23-27
Girl Sports Camp: August 6-10
This 580-acre park found within the urban landscape of the city of Louisville serves as the only state park within Jefferson County. The park encompasses both active and passive recreation and leisure pursuits. Recreational facilities include an Olympic size outdoor pool, fully functional gymnasium with basketball, badminton, and pickleball courts, athletic fields for soccer, lacrosse, and flag football, a three field softball complex, tennis courts, archery range, radio-controlled airfield, and BMX bicycle track. The park offers some of the finest natural settings in the Metro area with the Goose Creek nature trail and large meadow and forested green space. The Louisville Dog Run Association calls the park home, with a fenced-in 6-acre tract for dogs to enjoy. Outdoor adventure and enjoyment is also available with the Louisville Astronomical Society Urban Astronomy Center and Senior Community Gardens.
Meeting space is abundant in the park with small classrooms in the administrative building or the large reception hall and conference room found at the new Sawyer Hayes Community Center. The park also has three picnic shelters scattered around for family, corporate, and civic celebrations.

From Gene Snyder Freeway: Take the Gene Snyder Freeway (Interstate 265) to Exit 32. Go west on Westport Road to Freys Hill Road. Turn left onto Freys Hill road. Activities Building is on the right.
From North Hurstbourne Parkway: Turn east onto Westport Road, then turn right onto Freys Hill Road. The Activities Building is on the right.
