PhotoScenicKY Weekend is Oct. 12-13 at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
CORBIN, Ky. – Cumberland Falls State Resort Park will host this year’s PhotoScenicKY Weekend Oct. 12-13, an opportunity to learn more about photography surrounded by the natural beauty of the eastern Kentucky mountains.
This is the 50th anniversary of PhotoScenicKY Weekend, which takes place in cooperation with the Kentucky State Park system. This year’s all-digital photography weekend includes Sam Abell, a National Geographic photographer, and competitions and critiques of photographs from those attending the weekend event.
The weekend begins Friday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. (for those who can arrive early) for a nuts-and-bolts photo discussion including a question-and-answer session.
An open critique and competition made up of photos shot during the past year and submitted by those attending will be conducted Friday evening. Those photos must be turned in by 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Photographing by the participants will take place all day Saturday. The Saturday night session will be an open critique and competition of the photographs made during the weekend.
The weekend is coordinated by Bill Luster, a retired photographer for The Courier-Journal in Louisville and by Tom Hardin, former Courier-Journal director of photography.
Abell, a University of Kentucky graduate, has worked with the National Geographic Society since 1970 and has photographed more than 20 articles on various cultural and wilderness subjects. He has also lectured on photography and exhibited his images to audiences throughout the world. Several books on his work have been published. Canon U.S.A Inc. is sponsoring Abell’s appearance.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park has a lodge, Riverview Restaurant, cottages, campground, hiking trails, fishing and other recreational activities and a great view of Cumberland Falls. The park is located near Corbin off Interstate 75.
