Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park Announces March Events
DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. – Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park has re-opened following the winter storms and has several events planned for March. They include an astronomy workshop, scrapbooking weekend and a Junior Naturalist program.
Astronomy Workshop – March 7
An Astronomy Workshop is scheduled for March 7 starting at 7 p.m. The evening will begin with an astronomy presentation by astronomy expert, Ross Workman. After that we will carpool to a site to look at the night sky. Topics covered will be an introduction to the night sky, how to find your way around the constellations, and a discussion of equipment. Participants are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes.
This program is part of Pennyrile Forest Outdoor Adventure and Field School’s 2009 schedule. Another Astronomy Workshop will be offered on September 26, 2009. Scrapbooking Weekend – March 13-15
Whether you are an old pro at scrapbooking or just starting out this weekend is for you. Enjoy a spacious table to work all weekend, plus a chance to win scrapbook related prizes from various vendors, and trade unwanted scrapbook supplies with other scrappers. There will also be a Creative Memories, Close to My Heart, and/or StampIn Up consultants on hand to help participants with there own scrapbooking. Registration costs $40, register by March 6th to get a $5 discount. Participants are eligible for a lodging discount of $44.95 plus tax per night on a lodge room.
Junior Naturalist Program – March 28
Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park offers a Junior Naturalist Program for children ages 7-12 years of age. During this day long program, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., children will participate in five activities where they will learn about different aspects of nature. The program will include nature games, a reptile program, water monitoring 101, campfire building 101, and a birdfeeder study. After completing all the activities the group will be presented with their Junior Naturalist Badge, Certificate, and scientific notebook. Lunch in the park’s restaurant is included in the $10 fee. This program is listed as a children’s program in the Pennyrile Forest Outdoor Adventure and Field School 2009 schedule of events.

Pennyrile Forest has a lodge, cottages, restaurant and hiking trails. The resort is 20 miles northwest of Hopkinsville, on KY 109 N. From the Western Kentucky Parkway, exit at Dawson Springs and take KY 109 south.
