Pennyrile Forest Offers Day of Hiking and Rook Tournament In January
DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. – Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is getting off to a fast start in 2014 with two January events – a day of hiking and a winter Rook tournament.
The park will host “First Day” hikes on Jan. 1. The hikes will start at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Each hike will last about 90 minutes and will be on the Lake Trail with the park naturalist. Bring your own water and dress for the weather. A hiking stick is recommended.
To register for this free hike, contact the naturalist’s office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-800-325-1711. Participants should register one week prior to event. A minimum of five hikers are needed for each hike.
Pennyrile Forest will also host a Rook tournament the weekend of Jan. 10-12. The round-robin tournament begins Friday evening and runs through Saturday evening. House rules apply.
The registration fee is $25 per team and each team should bring a new deck of Rook cards. Register at least one week prior to the event and get a $5 discount on the registration fee.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park has a lodge, cottages, Clifty Creek Restaurant, gift shop, fishing and hiking trails. The resort is 20 miles northwest of Hopkinsville, on KY 109 N. From the Western Kentucky Parkway, exit at Dawson Springs and take KY 109 south.
