Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park Hosting Herpetology Weekend April 8-10

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. – Learn all about frogs, lizards and snakes at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park’s Herpetology Weekend April 8-10.

 

Enjoy a weekend of learning about reptiles and amphibians of the Pennyrile Forest region. The program begins Friday night with Scott Shupe and a presentation on reptiles that live outside of the U.S. Murray State University Herpetology Professor Ed Zimmerer will take the group out on Pennyrile State Forest Saturday for herping field trips and make a presentation about amphibians of Western Kentucky on Saturday night.

 

Registration fees are as follows: $5 student (K-College), $10 single rate, $20 family rate, $40 group rate (groups of 10 or more). To register, contact Rebecca Clark at rebeccae.clark@ky.gov or call 1-800-325-1711.

 

Pre-registration is preferred. A registration table will be set up beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday.  Programs will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  If attendance warrants, the group may be split into morning and afternoon groups for the field trips.

 

This is a great activity for families that like to get out and explore nature, as well as scouting and 4-H groups.

 

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is 20 miles northwest of Hopkinsville, on KY 109 N. From the Western Kentucky Parkway, exit at Dawson Springs and take KY 109 south.  Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is nestled within Pennyrile State Forest.  Park facilities include a lodge, cottages, restaurant, campground, 18-hole golf course, 56-acre lake, rental boats, playgrounds, tennis-basketball court, miniature golf course, hiking trails and meeting rooms.
