State Parks Host July Fourth Events
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Looking for a great place to take the family for the Fourth of July? The Kentucky State Parks have activities planned for the entire weekend all across the state.
The parks offer food, music, and of course, fireworks.
Here’s a listing of the events planned at the state parks for the entire weekend along with the county where the park is located. For details, call the park.
JULY 1
E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park (Jefferson): Concert and fireworks. Family fun. Recognition of veterans. Civil War encampment. Event hosted by the Tom Sawyer State Park Foundation. 502-429-3280.
General Butler State Resort Park (Carroll): Cruise to General Butler for Kentucky Kruizer's Car Club Show. Daylong event featuring custom and vintage cars along with an amusement atmosphere including 1950's & 1960's music, concessions, inflatable games, vendors, food, and for the first time a antique market. 1-866-462-8853.
Fort Boonesborough State Park (Clark and Madison): Free fireworks show on the Boonesborough Beach located in the park’s picnic area at 10 p.m. This show is open to the public and will last about 30 minutes. The park picnic area and putt-putt golf course will be open until 11:30 p.m. after the show. 859-527-3131.
Carter Caves State Resort Park (Carter): An animated movie will be shown in Cascade Cave at 6:30 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $4 and can be purchased in advance at the lodge, campground or welcome center. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Limited seating. 1-800-325-0059.
JULY 1-4
Barren River State Resort Park (Barren): Create your Independence Day memories at Barren River. The family-oriented celebration begins July 1 and ends with a spectacular fireworks display at 9 p.m. CST on July 4th. The four-day celebration will offer a variety of recreational activities and entertainment. There will be a campsite decorating contest, a non-motorized parade, volleyball, holiday related crafts and other "sparkling" activities leading up to a beach party on the 4th followed by the sounds of The Starr Mountain Band and then the fireworks display. 1-800-325-0057
Dale Hollow State Resort Park (Clinton and Cumberland): This weekend will be a blast with a variety of activities in the campground. Don’t miss the 2nd annual Firecracker 100 non-motorized Parade and Street Party in the campground. Recreational activities, along with campsite decorating contest, all weekend to get you fired up for the holiday. 1-800-325-2282.
Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park (Marshall and Livingston): A four-day celebration of our nation’s birthday with traditional activities, nightly entertainment, music, and food. Top off the holiday weekend with a 4th of July fireworks show. 1-800-325-0146.
Rough River State Resort Park (Grayson and Breckenridge): Celebrate the Fourth with fireworks over Rough River Lake on July 1 at 9:15 p.m. at the beach. Magic show at 6 p.m. at picnic shelter at beach. Live music by “The Starr Mountain Band” from 7-9 p.m. prior to fireworks at the picnic shelter. Other activities during the weekend include patriotic arts and crafts, Lady of the Lake II boat cruises, scavenger hunts, children’s fishing, archery and more. 1-800-325-1713.
JULY 4
General Butler State Resort Park (Carroll): A daylong celebration explodes for guests staying at General Butler State Resort with recreational themed activities, to evening entertainment open to general public. The grand finale at dusk will highlight a fireworks production over Butler Lake. 1-866-462-8853.
Lake Barkley State Resort Park (Trigg): Enjoy a day at the beach. Picnicking, swimming, live music, and playing in the sand lead up to beachfront fireworks show. 1-800-325-1708.
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park (Perry): Celebrate Independence Day with us with special activities including fireworks. 1-800325-0058.
Pine Mountain State Resort Park (Bell): The annual occasion of the 4 th of July fireworks aerial display over the mountain town of Pineville. 1-800-325-1712.
Greenbo Lake State Resort Park (Greenup): Activities going on all day. Music by “Bottom Line” on the Fourth starts at 6:30 p.m. at the community pool parking lot. Concession stand available. Fireworks start at 10 p.m. 1-800-325-0083.
Kenlake State Resort Park (Marshall and Calloway): One of the biggest shows in western Kentucky. Fireworks display is complimented by live entertainment and cookout. Recreation activities all weekend. 1-800-325-0143.
