LOUISVILLE, Ky.E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park has two seasonal events scheduled the weekend of Oct. 16-17.

On Friday, Oct. 16, the park will host the “After Dark in the Park, Geo-Ghost Walk” from 8-11 p.m. The walk will begin at Shelter No. 1 and the fee is $10 a person.

Guests will explore the grounds of the former Lakeland Asylum built in 1873.  Actual cases and stories surrounding the property will be your clues to finding as many lost souls (also known as caches) as you can in this geocaching event.

Prizes will be given to the quickest and most prolific soul seekers.  Prizes will include hotel stays, gift certificates, free tours, and much more.  If you don’t know what geocaching is- don’t worry!  Come early and the park staff can explain the activity or offer you an alternative route.  Show up at Shelter #1 between 4-8 p.m. to donate blood for the American Red Cross and get $3 OFF each admission price.

On Saturday, the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park Foundation will host the Fall Fest from 4-8 p.m. The event is free; parking is $5 a car.

Events include hayrides, dancing, nature hikes, astronomy displays, inflatable games, geocaching, costume parade, food vendors, storytelling, bonfire with s’mores, and more.

Norton Healthcare will offer seasonal flu shots to people 16 or older from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $25. The shots are free to those covered by Medicare Part B (must have an I.D. and Medicare card). Anyone under 18 who gets a flu shot must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian. Pregnant women must have written consent from an obstetrician.

The sponsors of this event are Norton Healthcare, Papa John’s, Metro Councilman Glen Stuckel, and Kentucky State Parks.
