Cemetery Iconology Seminar Planned For Carter Caves on Feb. 5

OLIVE HILL, Ky. – Carter Caves State Resort Park will offer a workshop on gravestones, icons and cemeteries as part of family tree research with its Cemetery Iconology Seminar on Feb. 5.

 

People can learn about family relationships, occupations, religious affiliations, social organizations and more through this research. The seminar will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and registration is $10 person. (Lunch is 12-1 p.m. and is not part of the registration fee.) The seminar will be conducted by Gaylord Cooper with the Southern Appalachian Genealogy Associates. Cooper is the author of books and articles on cemetery iconology.

 

Carter Caves State Resort Park is located at 344 Caveland Drive in Olive Hill. The park has a lodge with a restaurant, cottages and campground. Besides cave tours, activities include hiking, swimming, boating and fishing.

 

The park is located off Interstate 64 at exit 161. Take U.S. 60 east. Go approximately 2 miles and turn left on KY 182 north. The park entrance is 3 miles from the left turn onto KY 182 north.
