River of Stars – Perseids Meteor Shower Aug. 11 at Barren River
LUCAS, Ky. – Barren River Lake State Resort Park invites you to attend an astronomy program provided by the Louisville Astronomical Society on Saturday, Aug. 11.
Come out and make a shooting star craft at 4 p.m., enjoy dinner in the Driftwood Restaurant, and learn a little more about the Perseids meteor shower at the Literature and Lecture session at 6:30 p.m. After the lecture, you can be a Barren River Star during the karaoke party, while you wait for the sun to set.
Several park areas are great places to observe the Perseids meteor shower, away from city lights. Meteor showers are spawned by comets. The best time to observe peak activity (average 60 meteors per hour) is between midnight and dawn’s early light.
