“Hike to the Moon” at Barren River on June 23

LUCAS, Ky. – Barren River Lake State Resort Park invites you to attend an astronomy program provided by the Louisville Astronomical Society on Saturday, June 23.

 

 Come out and make “Out of this World” tie-dye shirts at 2 p.m. Listen to songs of the stars at 5 p.m. while you enjoy dinner in the Driftwood Restaurant. Learn a little more about astronomy at the Literature and Lecture session at 6:30 p.m., and finally "Hike to the Moon" without leaving the ground.  There is a fee for the tie-dye shirts.

 

The Louisville Astronomical Society will set up telescopes to see where Apollo astronauts landed on the moon and other interesting highlights. For more information, contact Jamie Avery at jamie.avery@ky.gov or 1-800-325-0057.

 

The park is surrounded by rolling, tree-covered hills, on the edge of a beautiful 10,000-acre lake. The park has 51 lodge rooms, 22 cottages, and 99 campsites. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of an upscale fish camp in the Driftwood Restaurant.  If you are looking for something to do during your visit, you can play the 18-hole golf course, hike along a nature trail, visit the marina to rent a boat, check out a fishing pole or sports equipment, browse the gift shop, or just enjoy a peaceful seat overlooking the lake.

 

The resort is located 44 miles southeast of Bowling Green. Take Interstate 65 to the Cumberland Parkway east, to US 31E south.
