LUCAS, Ky. – Barren River Lake State Resort Park will offer free introductory classes on bowfishing the weekend of June 12-13.

Bowfishing is the fastest growing archery activity today that everyone can participate in, which makes this a great family outing. The event includes a classroom style seminar and a hands-on demonstration with instruction for bowfishing.

Participants will learn about the basic bowfishing equipment, types of fish to hunt for, safe bowfishing practices, the times of the year best suited for bowfishing, different ways to go bowfishing, how to handle the fish after they have been shot, and proper fish cleaning and disposal.

You will learn to shoot by means of a simulated hunt situation.  Once you are familiar with shooting we'll take you for a target shoot with prizes awarded.  Finally, we put your skills to the test and take you to the water for the real thing.

The event begins Friday evening with a meet and greet.  The Saturday morning session begins at 9 a.m. at the Louie B. Nunn Lodge.  For a complete schedule of the weekend, contact Lisa Deavers at 1-800-325-0057 or lisa.deavers@ky.gov
