Barren River Offers “Boot Camp” For Kids
LUCAS, Ky. – Barren River State Resort Park will be hosting a youth “boot camp” for children ages 6 to 12 on Saturday, Nov. 3.
The Barren’s Environmental and Recreation Staff Youth Boot Camp – also called BEARS – is a way for children to experience a scaled down version of boot camp and hear from military veterans who have served our country just a few days before Veterans Day. The two hour session includes physical training, an obstacle course, radio use and patrol hand signals. This is a free event.
The sessions start at 10 a.m. with registration at 9:30 a.m. at the entertainment shelter. Children will be divided into two groups – one for ages 6-8, which will require a parent or guardian to attend. Parents or guardians for the 9-12 age group are encouraged to attend. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion as well as a hot dog and drink for lunch.
Advanced registration is available by contacting Lisa Deavers at 1-800-325-0057 or lisa.deavers@ky.gov
