Governor Fletcher Participates in the Champions for a Drug-Free Kentucky/KY-ASAP Statewide Conference
Frankfort, KY: Governor Ernie Fletcher delivered opening remarks today at “Celebrating the Common Wealth of Our Communities,” the 2005 Champions for a Drug Free Kentucky/KY-ASAP joint conference presented by the Office of Drug Control Policy.
Nearly 300 representatives of anti-drug groups from across the state will participate in the three-day conference. Mary Ann Solberg, the Deputy Director of The Office of National Drug Control Policy, is scheduled to address the participants Thursday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m.
“Early in our administration, we identified substance abuse as a public health epidemic which needed our serious attention,” said Governor Fletcher. “By unifying the efforts of prevention, treatment, education and law enforcement – and gaining the support of our communities – we can work to defeat this problem.”
“Our goal is to change the way substance abuse is handled in Kentucky and reduce the problem,” says Office of Drug Control Policy Executive Director Teresa Barton. “We need to continue to work together to get drugs off the streets and prevent our youth from being involved.”
The mission of Champions and KY-ASAP is to promote the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as the reduction of violence in Kentucky communities.
