FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Governor’s Mansion will once again be the site of the Annual Easter Egg Roll beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010.

This year’s event will include a special reading by Second Lady Allison Mongiardo, who is enjoying motherhood for the first time.

“Being a first-time mom, I’m really excited about being a part of this wonderful tradition,” said Mrs. Mongiardo.  “I’m just starting to make memories with my daughter and I’m happy to share this one with children from across the capital city.”

This year’s signature co-sponsors are the Frankfort Younger Women’s Club, C. Michael Davenport Chapel Charities Foundation, The Knights of Columbus, Laura Leigh Goins, The Kentucky Egg Council and Cal-Maine Foods.

“We are really happy to bring this event for the sixth year to children of our community and those throughout the Commonwealth,” said Frankfort Younger Women’s Club Vice President Amanda Weemer.  “It has become a great tradition and helps out children in need through the donation of books brought by the participants every year.”

In its sixth year, the event includes a series of egg roll races across the lawn of the historic Governor’s Mansion, as well as refreshments. This year, Mrs. Mongiardo will read T’was the Night Before Easter. Children can also get their pictures taken with the Easter bunny.

While the event is free and open to the public, participants are encouraged to bring a new or gently used book that will be donated to reading programs in Franklin County.
