KENTUCKY’S SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES GET NEW LOOK - Plates will now include “Unbridled Spirit” brand
FRANKFORT, Ky. – The New Year brings with it a new look for many of Kentucky’s specialty license plates. The state’s “Unbridled Spirit” brand, which has gained popularity not only in the commonwealth but in neighboring states as well, will begin to appear on an increasing number of Kentucky license plates.
“Kentucky has a unique collection of specialty plates which represent many aspects of the commonwealth,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “At the same time, our ‘Unbridled Spirit’ brand is having an impressive nationwide marketing impact. That’s why we believe it is important to include the brand on as many Kentucky license plates as possible.”
Kentucky has 40 specialty plates, such as “Nature’s Finest,” “Purple Heart Veteran,” “Child Victim” and “Historic Vehicle” plates. The price range for specialty plates is from $25 to $75.
Specialty plates with the “Unbridled Spirit” brand can currently be purchased for new vehicles being registered in the state, or they can be purchased by first time buyers of a specialty plate.
The existing specialty plates will be replaced in 2008 unless the inventory of a specific plate has been exhausted. At that time, the new specialty plates, which will include the state brand, will be introduced.
“With each specialty plate, we will continue to market the great diversity of things which make Kentucky the region’s prime destination,” said Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “The addition of the ‘Unbridled Spirit’ brand to each of those plates will help potential investors and tourists quickly and easily associate each of those activities or natural attractions with Kentucky.”
Kentucky’s “Unbridled Spirit” brand claimed its place on Kentucky license plates last summer, with the “Unbridled Spirit” plates making their debut August 1st. Governor Fletcher unveiled the new license plate design during a press conference at the Kentucky Speedway in mid-July 2005.
