DALE HOLLOW, Ky – Acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert announced a partnership between the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and State Park officials to promote driver safety.  The installation of the new signs to promote safety in Kentucky parks is underway.

“In keeping with Governor Ernie Fletcher’s vision of a safe and reliable transportation system for our commonwealth, two of Kentucky’s viable resources partnering in an effort to increase safety on our roads is just another avenue that will benefit all who travel throughout Kentucky,” said Secretary Nighbert.

“The new signs are a great advocate for driver safety across Kentucky,” said Dan Barnett, Director of Kentucky’s Division of Driver Safety.  “We want to remind our park visitors to be safe and drive smart when returning home from their visit at one of our beautiful state parks.”

The signs include the Kentucky State Parks logo, the Drive Smart logo and the Kentucky Unbridled Spirit brand.  There will be fifty of the new signs put up in Kentucky’s State Parks.

“This is an extremely busy time of year for our state parks,” said Parks Commissioner George Ward.  “Hopefully, these new signs will remind our visitors how important it is to drive smart.  We want to see them back at one of our wonderful resorts next year.”

All of the signs are expected to be installed at Kentucky State Parks by Labor Day weekend.  Nearly eight million people visit Kentucky State Parks each year.
