Governor appoints Louisville businessman to new position in Transportation

Frankfort, KY - Governor Ernie Fletcher and Kentucky Transportation Secretary Maxwell Clay Bailey today announced the appointment of Jim Adams as Chief of Staff. Mr. Adams will officially begin working at the Transportation Cabinet January 16.

"Jim’s proven record working in congressional, corporate and public services roles will be a big asset in our vision of creating a safe and reliable transportation system for all Kentuckians in offering new economic development opportunities and improving the quality of life for all our citizens," Bailey said.

Before coming to the Transportation Cabinet, Mr. Adams served as Commissioner of the Department of Public Protection, Kentucky Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet. Prior to being appointed to that position, Mr. Adams served as Vice-President for CSX Transportation in Louisville, and was responsible for Government and Community Relations in Kentucky between 2002 and 2004. Mr. Adams has also served as assistant vice-president for public affairs for American Commercial Barge Line from 1995 to 2002. Prior to that, Mr. Adams has also served as a commissioned officer for the U. S. Coast Guard, serving as a congressional liaison for the U. S. House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992, before moving on to serve as a legislative assistant for the U. S. House of Representatives from 1992 to 1995.

Jim and his wife Julie currently reside in Louisville with their sons, James and Joseph.
