Aviation Day ready for takeoff in Frankfort
Capital City Airport showcases a variety of aircraft Sept. 22
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 18, 2012) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, in conjunction with the Kentucky National Guard, will host Aviation Day at Capital City Airport in Frankfort, Saturday, Sept. 22. The event is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT.
“The purpose of Aviation Day is to highlight the Capital City Airport by giving folks an opportunity to come out and see the wide variety of aircraft that fly in here,” airport Assistant Director Scott Shannon said. “We’ll have civilian, private and military aircraft on display."
In addition to seeing aircraft up close, free airplane rides will be available for youths at least 8 years old. Flights for adults will also be available for a donation to the Kentucky Institute for Aerospace Education.
The Kentucky Institute for Aerospace Education will be on hand for young people interested in aviation, as will personnel and aircraft from the aviation program at Eastern Kentucky University.
“These aviation education programs are part of the many organizations and vendors that will participate in this year’s Aviation Day,” Shannon said.
Admission and parking are free.
