FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (August 29, 2006) – Governor Ernie Fletcher’s vision to provide a safe and reliable highway network for Kentucky is driving additional funding for roadway improvements across the commonwealth.  Governor Fletcher and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently announced a $599,002.83 contract for two asphalt resurfacing projects in Greenup County.

“Governor Fletcher’s commitment to provide a safe and reliable highway system extends to every community in the commonwealth,” said Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert.  “These pavement rehabilitation projects will deliver a safe, smooth roadway, improving access to local schools, businesses and residential areas in Greenup County.”

The contract includes:

·        Resurfacing 3.82 miles of KY 3105 (Wurtland Avenue) between US 23

·        Resurfacing 3.49 miles of KY 3116 between US 23

Resurfacing work on KY 3116, which fronts Greenup County High School, is tentatively scheduled to begin next week.  The low-bid contract was awarded to Mountain Enterprises Inc., of Lexington.

Motorists are asked to “Drive Smart” and be alert for flaggers, workers, and equipment in the work zone.  They are also asked to pay attention to traffic control devices such as cones, barrels, or barriers they might encounter.  Delays are possible in the work area, so drivers should plan their trips accordingly.
