Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $727,566.31 in Highway Contracts in Russell County
Somerset, KY – (July 8, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Russell County. Two contracts, totaling $727,566.31, have been approved by the cabinet.
“These projects reflect my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Russell County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.
The first project is Russell County, CB06 104GR05R013: (KY 80), 2.68 mi. (KY 379), 4.48 mi. Asphalt Resurfacing with the low bid submitted by Gaddie-Shamrock, LLC, Columbia, KY, in the amount of $421,204.15 and an approximate completion date of 10-31-05.
The second project is Russell County, FD05 104 GR05P053: Columbia-Russell Springs Road (KY 80), Olga-Russell Springs Road (KY 379). Asphalt Resurfacing with the low bid submitted by Gaddie-Shamrock, LLC, Columbia, KY, in the amount of $306,362.16 and an approximate completion date of 11-30-05.
The contracts awarded to Russell County are contained in one of the largest lettings ever in the transportation cabinet. Russell County is one of ten counties in District Eight. Approximately $13,192,301.13 has been awarded for projects in District Eight. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.
“These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.
Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is fall of 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
